So here it is, my dream car. I'm 45 now but when I was 17 my first car was a
beautiful 69 blue G.P. with custom leather interior, spotless car that I paid
$1,500 for. Imagine that! My second G.P. was at 21, a 1970 maroon model J. Not
as nice as the first one but who cared it was a G.P. So you can probably guess
what happened to them. Totaled, both of them. What a shame. So much for being
young and behind the wheel. So for the past 12 years I've been searching for a
decent one to restore the way I always wanted to. I found this one on the side
of the road about 4 years ago with a for sale sign in the window. It was a
dingy, dented black with a white shoe polish vinyl top, pimped out tires and a
hood ornament. I got so excited when I saw it I almost crashed into it. I
believe I paid $2,800 for it and have since dropped anywhere from $25,000 to
$30,000 into it. It is a 1970 model J with a 400 motor {fully worked now
pushing 425hp}. It does flat 14's at the track and always draws a crowd. Here's
why: Custom wheels widened and chromed, no beauty rings. All new suspension
with front & back heavy duty sway bars and traction bars. Rebuilt turbo 400
trans. with shift kit. 355 rear. Original motor has been bored to a 460, has a
mild cam, and smoothed out the power band with a Holly/Edelbrock set up. All
electronic ignition as well. 3" stainless steel exhaust. All four Q panels
have been replaced {2 n.o.s.}. Original front & back bumpers re-chromed. Full
paint job, deep black, no metalic. The leather interior is original {except
for carpet & headliner} and is in great condition. I am the 3rd owner. I bought
this from a guy {Paul} who is now a close friend who ownes a 1969 G.P. maroon
with a 428, 4 speed in mint condition. He purchased this with his father in
the hopes of restoring it for him. His father changed his mind and thats how
it made it's way to me. Funny story: I met Paul for the first time 1-1/2
years earlier when I saw his 69 G.P. on the highway and forced him to pull over
so I could take a picture of it. Hopefully now that I'm a little older I won't
total this one.
