Here's the story of our GTO. My husband purchased the car in 1988,
when he was a junior in high school for only $3500.00! The man
selling it was going through an ugly divorce and wanted to get rid
of it quickly. At the time, it was painted gun metal gray. Not
very flashy for a '65 Goat. So, the car was repainted in 1989. He
chose Medium Red Metallic, a Pontiac color popular with the
Bonnevilles of the late 80's. That paint job is now 15 years old
and looks as good as the day it was finished.
Through researching the car's VIN number and history, we found out
it was originally Iris Mist with parchment interior. Someday, we
hope to at least get back to the Iris Mist color. The car currently
has a 400 in it and a 4 speed. Little by little, part by part, we
are taking her back to her original state. Our 2 year old son loves
that car, and one of his first words was "GTO!"....a moment that
made Daddy very proud. We took that car out on our very first date,
and can imagine the day when our son does the same. It's truly a
member of the family, that's for sure! In fact, the "GTO fever"
has caught on in our immediate family. My Dad purchased a 1967
Plum Mist GTO, and Curt's boss has several GTO's, ranging from show
cars to drag cars. So, we like to say that if you're going to hang
with us, you'd better drive a Pontiac of some sort!
